Energy: Exploring New Horizons
The country must make a transition to a sustainable energy future and to achieve this, the country needs to expand the energy supply matrix, focusing on indigenous energy sources, thus increasing access to modern forms of energy by the population. Thus, some of the invest¬ment opportunities that are foreseen for the energy sector are presented below:
Electricity Production
a) The Development of Northern bank of Cahora Bassa (1.245MW);
b) Moatize Thermal Power , Phase I (600MW);
c) Benga Power Station, Phase I (500MW);
d) Moamba Gas Power Plant(600MW);
Energy Transmission and Regional Interconnection
a) Promote the construction of the Infulene – Manhiça - Macia line (110kV) ;
b) continue with actions aimed at building the Mozambique-Malawi Interconnection ( 220kV);
c) to undertake actions aimed at the construction of the Centre-North Energy Transmission System back up line;
Production of bio fuels
(1) Promote the production of bio fuels
Fuels
Rehabilitation, expansion and modernization of storage tanks in Maputo, Beira and Nacala;
b) Expansion of the capacity of reception and storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Matola;
c) Expansion of the Project of Using Natural Gasin vehicles replacing liquid fuels;
d) Production of LPG from natural gas;
e) Expansion of the distribution of natural gas to the area of Maputo City and District of Mar¬racuene;
f) construction of gas supply stations for vehicles in the cities of Maputo and Matola
Technological development
Factory of for solar energy equipment including photovoltaic solar panels, batteries, energy-saving lamps (CFL, LED)
Factory of wind power equipment, including shovels and towers of wind mills for water pump¬ing,
Factory of Small-scale hydropower plants (micro turbines)
