
The Special Economic Zones Office– GAZEDA organised on the 10th and 11th of May at the “Complexo Naherenque”, city of Nacala-Porto in the Province of Nampula the 1st Investment Conference and the 2nd Reflection Forum on the Implementation of the Projects at the Nacala Special Economic Zone.
The events, which took place under the lemma “The Nacala Special Economic Zone: A Model for Investment Attraction and Socio-Economic Development of Mozambique” aimed at (i) attracting more investment particularly for the Nacala Special Economic Zone and for the country as a whole and (ii) taking stock over the development of the Nacala Special Economic Zone, on the scope of implementing the Special Economic Zone Policy.
The ceremony was chaired by His Excellency the Ministry of Planning and Development, Aiuba Cuereneia and was attended by Government Officers, Province Governors, Mayors, Representatives of Public and Private Companies, Cooperation Partners, Scholars, the Civil Society, among other guests.
In his address, His Excellency the Ministry of Planning and Development said that, after five years since the establishment of the Nacala Special Economic Area, 44 projects have been approved, summing up to an investment amount of about USD 400 million, from which about 8000 jobs are expected to be created.
Likewise, he has pointed out Agro-Business as an activity to be encouraged as provinces under a direct influence by the “Nacala Corridor” and which are located close to the ZEEN have potential in agriculture and Nacala will be a distributing point for their products both for the domestic and external market.
In turn, the GAZEDA Director General, Danilo Nalá, has appointed the Small-Scale and Middle-Scale Companies as a key factor for the operationalisation of the ZEEN as they contribute for (i) the ZEE’s Economic Vitality; (ii) the strengthening of employment; (iii) taking advantage of the number of opportunities taken from large-scale projects; (iv) increasing production for local consumption and (v) stabilising the economy.
